Exhibiting at the Legalex

Advocate is the national pro bono charity of the Bar of England and Wales.

Advocate works with barristers nationwide to match people who need free legal advice and representation in all areas of law and across all levels from tribunal through to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court to a volunteer barrister. We are an application-based service which members of the public can access via referral from advice agencies, law centres, or their local MP.

Over 3,800 barristers including a third of all QC`s have committed to take on pro bono cases on behalf of our applicants.

We do not seek any public funding and the source of our funding is almost entirely through the Bar. We work with barristers' chambers, firms, and Bar suppliers to enable access to justice for many.

Chambers and companies support us financially through the Pro Bono Patrons and Friends in Law initiatives. Individuals support access to justice by taking on fundraising challenges including marathons and cycle rides. We work closely with LawWorks (the Solicitors Pro Bono Group) on a nationwide law student fundraising challenge, the Law School Challenge, and to host an annual Christmas carol concert at Temple Church attracting hundreds of barristers, solicitors, judges and other supporters. Once a year we celebrate all pro bono undertaken by the Bar through our nationwide Bar Pro Bono Awards, judged by leaders of the Bar including the Lord Chief Justice, Chair of the Bar and the Secret Barrister.
